A major breakthrough has been made in the industrialization of chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) in China. On September 29th, Huayi Group Shanghai Chlor-Alkali Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. announced that its high-end CPVC 10000-ton industrial device with its own technology has been successfully put into production. According to reports, CPVC is a chlorinated modified material of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Compared with PVC, pipes and fittings made of CPVC resin are more sturdy and have a wider range of applicable temperatures and media. The products are more resistant to impact, corrosion, and high in flame retardancy. With the same caliber of pipes, the weight of CPVC pipes is lighter than that of brass and steel pipes, and the price is much lower. CPVC material also has extremely low thermal conductivity, antibacterial properties, and good electrical properties. It is considered by the industry as "very promising."
In order to change the backwardness of China's CPVC research and development, in the early period of the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan”, the Shanghai Chlor-Alkali Company established the CPVC Research Group, invested tens of millions of yuan in R&D funds, and pushed forward the project process. In 2007, the project was included in the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” research support program of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the CPVC pilot plant was completed by the end of 2008. Subsequently, Shanghai Chlor-alkali Company prepared an industrialized 10,000-ton CPVC technology package, laying a solid foundation for the industrialization of scientific and technological achievements.

It is also learned that pipes and fittings made of domestically produced CPVC have been successfully used in chemical equipment and construction, and some products have been exported abroad.
